Create an accountLady Florence was a 19th-century Scottish writer, war correspondent, and boisterous advocate for women's rights. As an adolescent, Lady Florence rode her horse astride and matched her brothers when swimming, riding, or hunting. She bravely refused to conform to societal fashion standards when presented to Queen Victoria.
As an adult, she wrote popular books for both adults and children with topics exploring the position of girls and women in Victorian society. She was a rebel through and through and shared with her husband a passion for travel and adventure.
This necklace flaunts two unique mid-century glass cabochons. At the center, you'll find a German-made light sapphire glass intaglio. Intaglios have a negative carving, meaning the image is set into the glass. This differentiates them from cameos whose images are carved in relief, appearing to sit on top of the stone.
A vintage German frosted light sapphire glass oval cabochon hangs from the intaglio. Both unique stones were hand-pressed in antique molds using a centuries-old manufacturing process.
Both pieces of glass are enhanced by the warm gold coloring of a small antique brass button that is between 120 to 140 years old.
